Computer Based Training Engage students through technology!
Drill and practice software provide opportunities for students to work independently or as a class on specific content areas and immediately receive feedback on their performance. It can be used as a means to either learn new content or to review/assess old content.
Example
Keyboard Note Identification on Musictheory.net Students must identify and label the correct pitch shown on the piano keys
Tutorials are interactive in nature, and can be used to assist your instruction or as learning tools for independent learners. Tutorials help students learn new skills by using a step-by-step process where little to no previous knowledge is needed.
Example
YouTube Tutorials Students follow along with the video to practice a specific skill being taught
Game software is an engaging, fun way for students to reinforce existing knowledge or skills. There is usually a prerequisite of learning required.
Example
Beatboxing Creative Game at Incredibox.com Students organize rhythmic and melodic beats and rhythms to create their own beatboxing mix to access different levels. May be used as student-created background track for larger projects.
Discovery/Simulation software teaches new and reinforces existing knowledge or skills. There is a prerequisite of learning required and rarely includes record keeping.
Example
Composer Discovery Tools at San Francisco Symphony's Kids' Website http://www.sfskids.org/discover/ Students can explore composers by time by accessing the timeline tool!
